Wrinkles, fine lines, and acne scarring can put a damper on your self-confidence. If you want to diminish the appearance of fine lines and scars while reclaiming a healthy, youthful glow, you should consider micro-needling.

Micro-needling, or collagen induction therapy (CIT), is the process whereby your aesthetician or dermatologist uses a device to control injury to your skin. By controlling the injury to your skin, your dermatologist can induce growth factors that aid in creating new collagen and elastin. By damaging your skin at a very controlled rate, your natural growth factors are stimulated without causing long-term scarring or trauma in the same way a normal injury would. These growth factors are stimulated to induce collage synthesis, helping fine lines, acne scars, and wrinkles while giving you a radiant glow!

Unlike other dermal rolling, laser, or ablative treatments, this treatment causes less damage to your skin and helps to protect your skin cell growth. Thus, recovery time from micro-needling is often shorter than other treatments and frequently yields higher successful results.

At Aesthetic & Dermatology Center, we can couple our micro-needling treatment with Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy.

What is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy?

Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is a special serum that is derived from your blood. When your aesthetician or dermatologist takes a sample of your blood, they will run it through a machine that separates the platelet-poor plasma from the platelet-rich plasma. This process yields a higher concentration of platelets, which, as research has found, encourages growth factors, reparative cell function, and soft tissue healing.

Why Combine Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy with Micro-Needling?

The healing properties of PRP in conjunction with the increased growth factors inspired by micro-needling means that the micro-needling treatment that we offer at Aesthetic & Dermatology Center is optimized to give you the best results that utilize your body’s natural healing responses by up to 30%. Furthermore, it also decreases your healing time and maximizes results with minimal recovery.

What is Micro-Needling Used For?

  • Acne scars
  • Surgery scars
  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Stretch marks
  • Uneven pigmentation (not for patients with melasma)
  • Smooths texture
  • Reduces appearance of capillaries and spider veins
  • Increases glow and radiance of your skin

How Long Does Treatment Last?

This procedure generally lasts for about 20-30 minutes excluding prep and numbing time.

What Should I Expect During Treatment?

Your aesthetician will apply a numbing gel to the treatment area and will then adjust the micro-needling pen to your specific needs. The PRP solution will be applied to your skin during and after the procedure.

What Should I Expect After Treatment?

You will likely experience a sunburn-like redness on the treatment area for a few days following your procedure. In the following weeks, you will begin to see results. Generally, your aesthetician will suggest 3-6 treatments at 4-week intervals for initial correction. Following the initial correction period, you will likely want to come back for a treatment once every 3-6 months to maintain the results and continue the improvement.

Who is a Candidate?

Because the depth of the needle can be adjusted to your individual needs and the PRP therapy is derived from your own blood, most adults are a good candidate for micro-needling with PRP. However, people with auto-immune disorders are not good candidates for micro-needling. For those who are not optimal candidates for laser treatments or other types of skin treatments, micro-needling with PRP is ideal.
