Microneedling
Wrinkles, fine lines, and acne scarring can put a damper on your self-confidence. If you want to diminish the appearance of fine lines and scars while reclaiming a healthy, youthful glow, you should consider microneedling.
Microneedling, or collagen induction therapy (CIT), is the process whereby your esthetician or dermatologist uses a device to control injury to your skin. By controlling the injury to your skin, your dermatologist can induce growth factors that aid in creating new collagen and elastin. By damaging your skin at a very controlled rate, your natural growth factors are stimulated without causing long-term scarring or trauma in the same way a normal injury would. These growth factors are stimulated to induce collage synthesis, helping fine lines, acne scars, and wrinkles while giving you a radiant glow!
Unlike other dermal rolling, laser, or ablative treatments, this treatment causes less damage to your skin and helps to protect your skin cell growth. Thus, recovery time from microneedling is often shorter than other treatments and frequently yields higher successful results.
At Aesthetic & Dermatology Center, we can couple our microneedling treatment with Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy.
What is Microneedling Used For?
-
- Acne scars
- Surgery scars
- Fine lines
- Wrinkles
- Stretch marks
- Uneven pigmentation (not for patients with melasma)
- Smooths texture
- Reduces appearance of capillaries and spider veins
- Increases glow and radiance of your skin
How Long Does Treatment Last?
This procedure generally lasts for about 20-30 minutes excluding prep and numbing time.
What Should I Expect During Treatment?
Your esthetician will apply a numbing gel to the treatment area and will then adjust the micro-needling pen to your specific needs. The PRP solution will be applied to your skin during and after the procedure.
What Should I Expect After Treatment?
You will likely experience a sunburn-like redness on the treatment area for a few days following your procedure. In the following weeks, you will begin to see results. Generally, our esthetician will suggest 3-6 treatments at 4-week intervals for initial correction. Following the initial correction period, you will likely want to come back for a treatment once every 3-6 months to maintain the results and continue the improvement.
Who is a Candidate for Microneedling?
Because the depth of the needle can be adjusted to your individual needs, most adults are a good candidate for microneedling. However, people with auto-immune disorders are not good candidates for microneedling. For those who are not optimal candidates for laser treatments or other types of skin treatments, microneedling with PRP is ideal.
