Chemical Peels
What is a Chemical Peel?
As the name suggests, a chemical peel involves the application of a mild acid to the surface of your skin that will gently exfoliate.
What is a Chemical Peel Used For?
- Smoother texture
- Collagen stimulation
- Reduction of fine lines
- More even pigmentation
- Decrease in appearance of pores
- Unclog pores
What Should I Expect During Treatment?
Although chemical peels can sting, a sensation that we call “spiciness,” they are not painful. The acid that we use is very mild, and while you may experience discomfort, the discomfort will lessen as your skin adjusts to the treatment.
What Should I Expect After Treatment?
After your treatment, you may experience some redness and irritation. However, your provider will likely suggest a cream or gel to minimize the irritation. Some peels are “lunchtime” procedures, meaning they have no downtime and no physical peeling. Other peels can give you up to a week of peeling.
Generally, it will take several treatments to see noticeable improvements. At your consultation, your provider will be able to give you a realistic time frame during which you can see improvements.
Who is a Candidate?
While chemical peels are an effective treatment, they are not for everyone. For example, pregnant or nursing women or those with cut or broken skin, eczema, skin disease, and sunburns should not get a chemical peel.
To determine whether you are a candidate for a chemical peel, your provider at Aesthetic & Dermatology Center will discuss your health history and your cosmetic goals. In addition to this, you will receive a thorough skin examination before being approved for a chemical peel.
If you want younger looking skin, our expert dermatology team will give you a thorough skin examination and create a personalized treatment plan.
